Irina Rasquinet

Born in 1974 in Chechnya, she enrolled in an experimental art school in Moscow, then moved to Paris in 1997 to attend the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. Today, she lives and works in Paris.

Having grown up in a country at war, she has built a refuge where she can no longer stop herself from dreaming, filling the material void of her childhood, devoid of toys and color. She seeks to reclaim the carefree spirit she missed through her innate sense of wonder, creating protective pieces like her Mères Veilleuses, benevolent matryoshka dolls with blue-lacquered Japanese shapes. With her newfound childlike spirit, a surrealist approach, and a strong sense of poetry, she takes a playful look at themes such as love, identity, and nature. The titles of her works are the result of wordplay.
