Vicki Sher (1966), an American artist from Brooklyn, has taken part in numerous international fairs and exhibitions in New York. She combines her work with written poetry, in particular the poems of Charles Simic, whom she listens to while working. She attempts to create bridges between figuration and abstraction. She develops a work that is deliberately close to the notion of joy and the feeling of beauty, finding her source of inspiration in Nature. Landscapes, flowers, the air, light and gravity are some of the many elements to be seen in her work. Through her intuitive gestures, often combined with vegetal structures, she works with color codes in a poetic sense of rhythm. Transposed onto paper, the combinations and adjustments of the shapes, lines and vibrant color blocks heighten the musicality and the rhythm, often leading the viewer towards stronger emotions.
Vicki Sher uses transparent tracing paper a lot. By layering it sometimes with other sheets of paper, she can create multi-layered compositions allowing her to play with the feeling of depth and additional space while preserving the balance of her creations. She likes a lot of space in her work and tracing paper makes it possible for her to keep that space open and aerated.
