L’œuvre de Vicki Sher est d’inspiration très spontanée et intuitive. Elle combine des formes, lignes et couleurs. Elle lie son travail sans réserve à l’équilibre, le mouvement, la beauté, la décoration et le plaisir. Elle aime à associer sa méthode de travail, mélanges de couleurs et de collages de papiers colorés, à la poésie. On retrouve notamment cet aspect dans son exposition The Voice at 3AM, accompagnée des poèmes de Charles Simic. Comme les poètes, elle cherche à inventer un langage personnel à partir du langage conventionnel et refuse l’opposition entre figuration et abstraction. Réduire l’imagerie aux formes lui permet de créer ce nouveau langage. Les combinaisons sans fin d’ajustements de blocs de construction aux couleurs vibrantes ont accentué la joie et la beauté, mais aussi introduit plus de jeux dans son travail en atelier.
Vicki Sher utilise beaucoup le papier calque transparent avec la volonté de créer une composition multicouche et de jouer ainsi avec la profondeur et l’ajout d’espace en superposant parfois d’autres feuilles. Elle exprime au travers du dessin un royaume émotionnel vague, inaudible et changeant, issu de son intérêt pour les natures mortes, la vie domestique et la poésie du quotidien.
